Glucose Management using A CGM

When I started wearing a CGM, my in-laws both asked me…. “do you have diabetes?” Nope! I do not, BUT, it’s an essential part of my nutrition protocol for myself. I find it SO fascinating the data you can learn from wearing one, even just for a month. And now, they’re an integral piece of the work I do.

So, let’s talk CGM. What is it, whats it do, who’s it for?

CGM stands for Continuous Glucose Monitor and it’s typically designed for people who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Sometimes, women who are halfway through their pregnancy and decline the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) can have the option to wear one and track their glucose for a couple weeks.

Your blood sugars tell you A LOT about your health, energy, and even long-term risk for chronic disease.

These days, more and more people are wearing their CGMs to proactively get ahead on their health, sometimes being referred to as a “biohacker” and we secretly love that.

  1. Blood sugar isn’t just about diabetes.

Even if you’ve never had a blood sugar problem, your glucose levels impact almost everything: energy, mood hormones, sleep quality, weight, fertility, and more. Blood sugar highs and lows can leave you feeling exhausted, foggy or “hangry” - things so many of us write off as “normal” but they’re not.

A CGM helps you see how your body responds to foods, stress, exercise, and sleep in real time. That awareness alone can change habits.


2. Food is personal

You and your neighbor could eat the exact same breakfast at the very same time but have different blood sugar responses. Genetics, gut health, stress, and even slepe play a major role.

With a CGM, you’ll figure out YOUR unique food triggers. For example, people find oatmeal (instant) to spike their blood sugar sky high. I personally am someone who can’t tolerate coffeeshop coffee unless I’ve had 40+g of protein at breakfast. I’ve had clients who can’t tolerate smoothies, grapes, and so much more. It takes a LOT of the guesswork out and replaces it with data thats unique to you, IMO: it’s thee most personalized form of nutrition

3. Support Hormones & Fertility

For women especially, blood sugar balance is key for reproductive health. Large glucose swings can worsen PMG, PCOS, and perimenopause symptoms. For those trying to conceive, steady blood sugar helps support healthy ovulation and egg quality.

By wearing a CGM, you can see if your meals are truly keeping your blood sugar stable, which in turn supports balanced hormones.

4. Improve energy & focus

That mid-afternoon crash? It’s often tied to blood sugar dips after a spike, not your sleep quality at night (although it can be attributed to that too). Instead of another cup of coffee, a CGM can show you which meals or snacks set you up for stable energy versus which ones drain you

Many people find they can avoid fatigue simply by pairing carbs with protein and healthy fats, a CGM makes those results crystal clear.

5. Prevent future health issues:

Blood sugar dysregulation starts years before prediabetes or diabetes shows up on lab work. By tracking now, you can spot trends early and take action before it becomes a bigger problem. Think of it as proactive prevention, not reactive medicine.


6. It’s a major motivator

Theres something about seeing your own body’s data in real time that makes healthy choices stick. It’s one thing to KNOW you should eat more balanced meals, but it’s another to see and actually FEEL how much better your body runs when you do.

The bottom line:

You don’t need to have diabetes to benefit from a CGM. If you want clearer energy, better hormone balance, sharper focus, and long-term protection against chronic disease, a CGM can be an incredible window into your body’s inner world.

Knowledge is power and in this case, it might also be energy, mood stability, and long-term health .
